SHEEP WITH LAMBS AT FOOT
The J36 Great Annual Show and Sale of Hoggs with Lambs at Foot saw a top quality entry from new and annual consigners sell to a brisk and fast trade.
18 pens were out for the show this morning with many thanks to our judges Mr Ian Dixon, Low Newton for Mules and Mr John Tunstall, Kirkby Stephen for Continentals. The show was kindly sponsored by Brown & Brown and Peregrine Asset Finance. The judges awarded the results as follows:
5 MULE HOGGS WITH SINGLE LAMBS
1st Winter Brothers, Clickham Hall - £550

3rd H&B Wharton, Galloper - £380

CHAMPION: Winter Brothers, Clickham Hall
RESERVE: Winter Brothers, Clickham Hall
The sale topped at £550 for the day’s champions from Winter Bros, Clickham who also sold the days reserve champions to £500. Mules throughout the sale were good to sell with AR Edmondson, Hawkswell reaching £400 and £390 with H & B Wharton, Tebay reaching £380. Also at £380 was Messrs Smith & Shepherd, Appleby with G & KM Atkinson, Appleby and Messrs Harrison, Low House both selling pens at £370.
Continentals enjoyed a tasty trade with a top call of £430 shared 3 ways by G & KM Atkinson, Colby, SJ Pedley, Kirkby Stephen and AT Rogerson, Chipping. Richard Gardiner, Penrith saw his hoggs to £410 with DJ & S Dixon, Hartley Castle achieving £400. The good consignment from JH & JE Taylor, Ainstable and MW & HE Pedley topped at £390 and £380 respectively.
Only a couple of pens of Suffolks forward, both quality pens selling to £355 for T & SB Proctor, Musgrave with AT Rogerson, Chipping close behind at £350.
Averages were as follows:
• Continental Hoggs with Lambs: £368.59
• Mule Hoggs with Lambs: £359.10
• Suffolk Hoggs with Lambs: £352.50

A handful of ewes and lambs followed, with twins selling to £350 for 3 crop Mules from S & W Dickinson, Tebay and singles reaching £300 for broken mouth Texels from J & M Smith, Windermere.

PRIME SHEEP
Spring Lambs still bouncing and fat hoggs still flying.
Prime sheep trade still very much in order with both springers and well finished hoggs remaining in massive demand.
Good heavy hoggs also a lump dearer today however the bottom end, lighter end and mixy sheep harder work to cash.
Springers today finished up with an all in average of 438p/kg and an SQQ average of 447p/kg.
Numbers on the prime hoggs tightening and a proper end of season show on offer, however trade was thrilling for the better end. Heavyweights sold to £234 for a pen of 7 from Messrs R & E Ladds with the same home selling further hoggs to £229. A pair from Messrs JB Airey also sold to £229. Beltex hoggs sold to 450p/kg from Messrs AT Burrow & Son. Texels sold to 433p/kg from Messrs A & CM Carter. Scotch Blackface sheep sold to 420p/kg for a pen full from Messrs M Woodhouse. Good meat fantastic to sell, resulting in and SQQ average of 390p/kg. Both springers and hoggs continue to be in huge demand for all types of lambs and well finished hoggs.

CULL SHEEP
251 Ewes
Trade held well today with a good selection of all breeds.
Continental ewes were hitting over the £200 mark regularly, with a top price of £260 from Messrs Wightman, Lupton.
Mules weren’t far behind with better with better end making between £185 and £196. Top price of £208 came from BR Harrison, Kendal.
Horned sheep were as strong as ever with a top price of £148 from R Lawrence, Greaves Farm with a pen of Swaledales.
